Slates hit new heights in Slaithwaite!

We visited key account roofing contractors Karl Austerfield at their Town Hall refurbishment in Slaithwaite to see the installation of 24,200 new penrhyn celtic heather blue natural welsh slates.

Site Manager Richard Cusack escorted us around the re-roof near Huddersfield and highlighted the extent of the Kirklees Council undertaking. A detailed specification had been assigned to this prominent town building by utilising Proctor Roofshield breather membrane, double sided membrane tape and full Sandtoft dry fix ridge & hip system by Wienerberger.

The Welsh slates ( as supplied by our Leeds Depot ) would be a sympathetic upgrade from the original diminishing course slate roof and the rigid fixing specification would mean minimal maintenance in the future.

The old cast rainwater gutters would be replaced by new aluminium versions in the same profile plus the original cast box gutters would be re-boarded with a single ply flat roofing system installed to the finish.

At the eaves, ventilation would be introduced via the over fascia vent system and roll out rafter trays. The underlay would be protected into the gutter by utilising an underlay support tray throughout.

This project is a real testament to the Austerfield team, they hope to see the scaffold down and roof complete by July 2016.
