Our History

In 1982, Peter Burton opened his first yard at Stepney Lane, Hull. Having worked for Roofing Manufacturers since the age of 18, Peter already had a wealth of experience behind him. Little did he know that over the next 35 years Burton Roofing would stock over 30,000 product lines and distribute materials not just throughout the United Kingdom, but worldwide.

The family business progressed at a rapid rate until 2008 when the business was acquired by The Cupa Group, the worlds largest supplier of Natural Roofing Slates. At the end of 2016 Cupa Group were bought by The Carlyle Group - a major investment fund from the USA.

With a busy team of over 140 staff, the company today boasts 13 depots with a turnover in excess of £50million.

The key factor to the group's growth continues to be price, service & stocks. Our customer database includes:

  • Roofing & Building Contractors
  • Builders Merchants
  • Developers
  • DIY & Self Builders
  • Local Authorities
  • Architects

Holding over £8million of roofing materials on the ground and with an extensive fleet of delivery vehicles, Burton Roofing certainly has a distinct edge over the competition.

Sadly on the 11th January 2017 Peter Burton our founder and Chairman passed away following a short illness. Our continued success is based upon his approach to business and unique leadership skills that our Directors and staff are committed to preserve in his memory.

With this in mind, it is safe to say that Burton Roofing will continue to grow and supply roofing materials to the nation for years to come.
